Exclusive livestream workshop with Julie Lyonn Lieberman: multi-style, ergonomically based acoustic/amplified performer and educator
Class Description:
While teaching at Mark O’Connor’s camp when it was in Nashville many decades ago, I sat down to lunch with a number of the faculty. A very famous fiddler bemoaned the fact that his playing hadn’t improved for years. He said, “I guess everyone hits a glass ceiling they’re never able to overcome.
He looked like he wanted us to commiserate with him. Everyone kept eating, but I said, “It all depends on how you practice.”
Silence …
While driving to my next job in TN, I started to wonder how many other amateur and professional players might believe this is true. How about you? Do you think or feel that way?
In my session on March 20th, we’re going to take a deep dive into this issue and much more.
— Do you have difficulty allocating time to practice? Learn some cool tips to handle that.
— Every thought you have influences how your nervous system responds when you play. Does your mind imitate a run-away horse? We will address the emotions and thoughts that are detrimental to practice and musicianship.
— Do you feel discouraged when you hear someone who plays better than you? I will address this pitfall and provide you with a new approach.
— Are there technical problems you’ve been meaning to address, but never get to or do for a time and then slide back? In my experience—after teaching thousands of players across four decades—it’s rather common. We will address this problem.
— If there’s time leftover, I’ll happily address any questions you have about the art of learning and creating music.
I’m looking forward to the opportunity to support your musical journey!
