Practice Makes Permanent – Quick Practice Tip

Teacher: Vi Wickam

Description

Hi I’m Vi Wickam and this is another Quick Practice Tip for you!

Practice makes permanent.

Now, we’ve all heard the axiom practice makes perfect.

But, in reality, whatever it is that you’re practicing and however it is you’re practicing, it will become your default way of playing that.

So, if you’re practicing lazy habits- you’re slouching, you’re playing scratchy, you’re not using enough bow… Whatever it is- if you make a habit of that, it becomes the way you play.

So every time you approach your instrument, and if you approach it with intention, focus, concentration, and listening, you will create habits that you want to have instead of habits that you’re going to have to break later.

So, remember how you practice, is how you will play!

Practice makes permanent.

And that’s your Quick Tip this week! See you next one!

About Vi Wickam

Vi Wickam of Loveland, CO has been performing fiddle and writing music since before he could read. Along with his brothers and dad, The Wickam Family Band performed regularly on Blinky’s Fun Club, a nationally syndicated TV program.

Vi’s fiddling can be heard on numerous CD recordings, including two of his own. He’s played with many different bands throughout the United States, and even briefly in England.

Among his fiddling honors, Vi has won the Colorado State Championship twice, and been a finalist four times at the Grand Masters’ Fiddler Championship. He has judged fiddle contests throughout the US, and directed regional and state level fiddle contests.
