About Indian Classical Rhythms:
Explore the world of tala! India has musical traditions that date back thousands of years, and every musician should know at least a little about it. Both Hindustani and Carnatic styles use rhythmic cycles called tala, and we can describe these rhythms using rhythmic solfege (bols – in Hindustani, and konnokol – in Carnatic). In this lesson we will learn some basic rhythmic building blocks and practice reciting them, plus explore some of the most common rhythmic cycles and rhythmic gestures (and learn to play them on our instruments!).
