About Gypsy Jazz: Pentatonic Scales:
Pioneered by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli in the 1930’s, this distinctive and uniquely European branch of jazz has since spread across the world. For a string player, it is probably the most accessible and popular type of jazz. During the lesson, we will start off with the easiest possible way into improvisation, so if even if you’ve never played jazz before, you’ll soon be swinging with the best of them. We’ll then look at some typical gypsy jazz licks and apply them to the tune Minor Swing, one of the best known of all gypsy jazz standards.
