Hi I’m Vi Wickam, and it’s time for another [my] Talent Forge Quick Tip of the Week.
Where did your focus go?
Now this is obvious for most of us- not for me… The reason you may be having trouble focusing is because you’re sleepy!
Sleepy?! Yes. Sleepy.
Most of us don’t get adequate rest. We don’t get enough sleep. We don’t get the 8 hours of sleep a night that we really need. At least that’s what the doctors say.
This is one case where I’d say they know what they’re talking about.
So, if you’re having trouble concentrating, you’re having trouble focusing, you’re having trouble getting that next challenging piece memorized or mastered- think about, “Well, how much rest am I getting?”
Maybe you should take a nap? Maybe your body needs a little R & R. A little rest and recuperation.
I know you may be thinking right now, but I had 2 cups of coffee!! I just had a cup of coffee… I love coffee!
But coffee is not the same as rest.
Coffee is fun, coffee is yummy- when it’s good coffee, but coffee does not replace sleep. In fact, too much coffee can make you jittery and unable to focus too.
So if you really want to get your focus on, you really want to nail that piece, you really want to take your playing to the next level, maybe you should take a nap! Maybe you should get another 8 hours of sleep tonight.
And you won’t be shocked because you’ve heard this lesson to find out that you wake up and you are so happy to see the day, because it’s amazing, and you can focus and you can nail it!
So get out there and nail it- with a good night’s sleep, and maybe a nap.
