Do Your Exercises – Quick Practice Tip

Teacher: Vi Wickam

Description

Hi, I’m Vi Wickam, and this is another Quick Tip!

Do exercises!

Now I don’t mean do your jumping jacks…although that’s probably a good idea too!

But when you’re playing the violin, the piano, the guitar, the mandolin- doing exercises makes you better faster.

Just like if you want to be a world class athlete, you’re not going to just go run the race. You know, you’re not going to get up and say, “Okay, today I’m going to run a marathon!”

You’re going to do exercises and you’re going to practice and you’re going to get yourself in shape.

The same thing applies to playing an instrument. You need to do exercises even though they aren’t always the most fun thing.

Now once you’ve done your exercises, that’s a great time to reward yourself by playing some tunes! So play some exercises, then you can have some fun and play some tunes!

But spend some time, even if you spend 5 minutes a day, or 10 minutes a day doing exercises, you will be amazed at how much improvement it will create in your playing.

If you do 5 minutes a day of a bowing exercise, and you really pay attention, and you’re focused, and you’re really nailing that exercise… If you do that every day for 2 weeks, you will be blown away. You won’t believe how much better you are!

So that’s my quick tip for the week! Do your exercises!

If you don’t what exercises to do, get on myTalentForge.com. We have a ton of awesome exercises to help you get better.

We have the Zen Bowing Exercises series- that has lessons by me and Dr. David Wallace- on simple bowing exercises that will make big improvements.

We also have a number of scale exercises- everything from Double-Stop Scales to Modal Scales to just simple scales- like mastering the G Scale, 1 octave and 2 octaves scales, my Master Scale System- which is a series of 3 octave scales.

You know, it’s all there! There are a ton of exercises that are available to you. You can even make up your own exercsies! Because you’re smart!

So have a great week! And promise yourself you’re going to spend 5 minutes a day doing exercises on your instrument. You won’t regret it!
