Create a Routine – Quick Practice Tip

Teacher: Vi Wickam

About Create a Routine – Quick Practice Tip:

Hi, I’m Vi Wickam, and this is your [my] Talent Forge Quick Tip of the Week.

I hope you’re all doing well with your 5, 5, and 5 challenge- 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week, for 5 weeks! I think you’re rocking it, you’re killing it! Let me know how you’re doing down below.

This is a piece of that same kind of idea- create a routine. Let’s create a practice routine. I created a tool for you called Fast Fiddle Fitness. It’s available on my website.

You don’t have to use that routine. My suggestion in your routine is that you start out by warming up your body with some warm ups and stretches. Then warm up your ears with some scales.

Then use some little exercises to either warm up your bow or your left hand a little bit. Then play some tunes that you’re comfortable with, some tunes you like. Spend a few minutes just playing it. Get into the groove, get into the feel.

Then if you want to learn something new, spend a few minutes working on something new.

Then take a cool-down.

That’s just my general practice routine. You can do that kind of a routine in about 45 minutes. But you can do your routine however you want to.

Just remember that warming-up and cooling-down are useful tools, as well as, warming up your ears, which scales will really help you with your intonation as you practice.

That’s your Quick Tip of the Week. Get into a practice routine… and I will be the first to admit that I’m not always good at this.

I have my idea of what my practice routine is, but I’m not perfect! I don’t always do it. Sometimes I get in and I’ll just want to play- so I’ll just play.

So don’t judge yourself and don’t make yourself wrong just because you didn’t do the routine that you set out to do.

But it can be useful to create a routine and get into a groove with it. So try it out, find your own practice routine, and stick with it for a while!

Give yourself maybe a month, or two months, of practicing in a specific routine as you practice.

That’s your Quick Tip for this week. I hope you’re doing well and I’ll talk to you soon! Have a great one!
