About It’s A Communication – Quick Practice Tip:

Hi, I'm Vi Wickam. and this is your myTalentForge.com Quick Tip of the Week! It is not a performance, it's a communication. Now that may sound weird to you, but when you're on stage, you're not performing. If you can view it as a communication with the audience- that you have a message to deliver to them, and they have a message to deliver to you, then it's a whole lot less daunting. I learned this trick from one of my good friends- a speaking coach, by the name of Ava Diamond. She's a really cool lady. She taught this in our speaking course, that if you approach it, you get on stage, and you have a gift to the audience, you have a communication. You have something to give to the audience to benefit them. You have a whole lot better space to create music, or to give a speech. But we're talking about music here. And it's extra important in music because- what is this? This is a communication device, it's not a performance device. It's not about putting on a show. You want them to enjoy it when you're on stage. But if you're in the space of, "I'm here to give a gift to you as the audience, I'm here to communicate with you and to tell a story through my instrument."... It's a whole lot better place to be from because then there's not any pressure. If you didn't get the communication across right now, you have another change. You get to try again. If you're performing, then there's all this judgement attached. You could be wrong. You played a wrong note. Well, in communicating, you just didn't get that message across- so you get to try it again. So if you view your performance as a communication, you will be coming from a much more musical place, and you're in a place where you can create beautiful music and communicate it to your audience. That's today's myTalentForge.com Quick Tip! See you next week!
