About Binaural Beats – Quick Practice Tip:
Hi everybody, Vi Wickam here. This is another Quick Tip of the Week for myTalentForge.com.
Hopefully some of you heard when I played […], you hear that “whoo, whoo, whoo…”. That is called a beat frequency.
What I want to tell you about today is a thing called Binaural Beats. Binaural beats are a meditation technique, and it’s something that I’ve been aware of and using since I’ve been in high school.
When in physics, you hear two frequencies together, if they are in synchronization, or close to in synchronization with each other, a 3rd pitch or a 3rd frequency is created through the addition and subtraction of those two frequencies and how they interact with each other.
An example of this is what I just did- where you play an A440, along with say an A438. In addition you will hear a two Hz beat frequency.
Now that’s a factor of physics. How binaural beats work is in your brain, those two frequencies interact in the same way.
So if I use headphones and I hear A440 in one ear, and A438 in my other ear, then in my brain 440 exists, 438 exists, but the difference between the two, or two Hz also exists.
And you’ll hear it. Even if those pitches don’t interact in the physical world, they interact in your brain.
The reason this is is that, in your brain, when you hear a note, that note exists in your brain as a brainwave. If you don’t believe me, check it out. It’s the truth, it’s neuroscience. It’s fancy!
And it works! The science behind binaural beats is quite compelling. It hasn’t been thoroughly researched by western science, but there are a lot of people researching it right now, and a lot of people looking into it.
There’s a lot of learning in this area.
From my personal, subjective experience, I can say that it’s something I use to create a clear thinking space in my brain, in my mind, and to relax.
I use a program called Gnaural. The idea is this program plays 1 frequency in one ear and a slightly different frequency in the other ear.
You might think that’s really weird, and it is a little bit. But, if you listen to it for 30 minutes, your brain has been shown to entrain in the direction of that beat frequency.
So those frequencies exist in your brain. And then there’s a phenomenon called Sonic Entrainment, where your brain will drift into that frequency realm.
This is a little longer Quick Tip than usual, and I apologize. There’s lots of info on it- I’ve written a longer article about it that you can read that I will link at the top of this post.
But check it out, try it out! See if you find if binaural beats are useful for you. Leave me a comment- let me know if you tried binaural beats. Give it 30 minutes. And then let me know how you feel after you try it!
Try out this meditative program, and let me know! Give me some feedback. Tell me what you think.
Good luck! See you next time!
