About Achieve Old Time Nirvana – Quick Practice Tip:

Hi I'm Vi Wickam, and this is another myTalentForge.com Quick Tip of the Week! How many of you really, really own a tune? I don't mean, can you play a tune?... Do you own that tune? Have you marinated in that tune to such a degree that you don't even have to think about it to play it. You don't even have to think about it to vary it and explore that tune. You've explored that tune so much that you know so many variations on it- that you just rock that tune! You don't even have to think about that tune to rock it! This Quick Tip is a great way to get there on a tune. If you've never been to an old-time jam, I would suggest you go to a jam because in those old-time jams, they marinate in those tunes. They will play that tune forever! It's not like a bluegrass tune where everybody takes one lick in the jam. And it's not like an Irish tune, where each tune gets played 3 times throughout the jam. It is people play that tune, and play that tune, play that tune...etc. and the goal is to soak that tune into the marrow of your bones- to achieve old-time Nirvana with that tune! To have that tune a part of you- to have that tune a part of you and to become one with that tune. And that's what I'm talking about when I say "own that tune". Great way to do that is to just play that tune and play that tune and play that tune, and you won't even have to think about it because it will become with you and you will become one with the tune. You can do that at an old-time jam or you can do it on your own. But do it and see what a change it makes in your music! Own that tune- marinate in that tune! Achieve old-time Nirvana... [The tune I play at the end of this Quick Tip is called Angeline the Baker. Listen to it here.] PS. If you are interested in playing music by heart, consider the Memorize It! Series by Dr. David Wallace. PPS. Here are some other fun old time tunes lessons: · Liberty · 8th of January · Boil Them Cabbage Down (Advanced) · Cotton Eyed Joe (Matthew Hartz) · Cripple Creek (Advanced) · Devil’s Dream (Daniel Carwile) · Flop Eared Mule
